Geoff & Margareta Williams 17th April 2024

I first met John MacRae working for Shell-Mex late 1971. He took the initiative to seek a predictive model on the demand for heating oil for homes from UK temperature variations, which we subsequently developed. He and Josie kindly attended my wedding to Margareta in the Netherlands October 1972, in full Scottish regalia of course, and he spoke at our wedding reception dinner in the orangerie at Huis Doorn in The Netherlands. He was a great hit with the guests. Shell-Mex divided its UK marketing operations and he joined BP and I joined Shell but we have kept in contact with each other ever since. We were delighted to meet John’s father and aunt and the parents of Josie. I spoke at a memorial service for Josie and he kindly hosted us in an unforgettable holiday to Egypt. He also kindly hosted an Australian girl and her family in Egypt before she died of cancer. John had a great gift for making friends wherever he went. Always kindly, calm, and dignified, he has been a wonderful friend to us and we will greatly miss him.
