Thoughts

We have been blessed to know John over the last 2 years in Benderloch. Lovely memories of passing his flat on our bikes and being enticed in by the smell of his pipe - needless to say he always made sure we took some refreshment with him before wobbling home.. We feel privileged to have known John and will always remember him.

I first met John MacRae working for Shell-Mex late 1971. He took the initiative to seek a predictive model on the demand for heating oil for homes from UK temperature variations, which we subsequently developed. He and Josie kindly attended my wedding to Margareta in the Netherlands October 1972, in full Scottish regalia of course, and he spoke at our wedding reception dinner in the orangerie at Huis Doorn in The Netherlands. He was a great hit with the guests. Shell-Mex divided its UK marketing operations and he joined BP and I joined Shell but we have kept in contact with each other ever since. We were delighted to meet John’s father and aunt and the parents of Josie. I spoke at a memorial service for Josie and he kindly hosted us in an unforgettable holiday to Egypt. He also kindly hosted an Australian girl and her family in Egypt before she died of cancer. John had a great gift for making friends wherever he went. Always kindly, calm, and dignified, he has been a wonderful friend to us and we will greatly miss him.

Treasured memories of a very special man from the first time we met in Aswan, a special place for all of us. We shared many special events there, including pacing the hotel floor waiting on the news of the arrival of John's first grand daughter Lauren, and us getting engaged and celebrating with flamethrowers, cake and wine organised by John and Sandy. Lots of fun adventures over the years. Thoughts and prayers are with Jenny, Helen, Sandy and Families. May you rest in peace John, love always Alastair, Karen and Sophie xxx
